Baptism is the first of the sacraments. It is the door into the community of faith. This is the faith of our fathers and mothers and of their fathers and mothers before them. It is the same faith which has been passed down from generation to generation to us from the times of the Apostles. And it is now our turn to pass it on to the next generation.
In Baptism we are re-born again as children of God, and receive the life-giving Sanctifying Grace of the Holy Spirit.
What does this mean? ‘Sanctifying Grace’ is the power and the love of God freely given to us that enables us to be more like Him. So Baptism is not a symbol, a metaphor or a naming ritual. When someone is christened, they are claimed by Christ for Himself. He calls each of us by our name and invites us to follow Him.
To arrange a christening, please contact the parish office. At least one of the godparents must be Catholic. To help you prepare for the sacrament of Baptism, you will be given the opportunity of meeting the Parish Baptismal Team either in your own home, or at the Church.
